Combat Leadership Book Interviews

My name is Mike Ettore. I am a retired Marine Infantry officer, with 24 years of enlisted and commissioned service
(1974-98).  I am in the process of writing books on the topic of combat leadership:

Book 1: Combat Leadership
A book written for aspiring combat leaders at the company level and below - corporals, sergeants, lieutenants and captains. It will contain various insights, lessons learned and advice gleaned from countless readings, battle histories, after-action reports and interviews of veteran combat leaders. Some of the core chapters include:

- Rites of Passage: The Test of Combat
- The Profession of Arms & Being a Professional Soldier
- What Makes an Effective Combat Leader?
- Professional Competence & Sound Judgement
- Courage: Moral & Physical
- Mental Toughness & Warrior Spirit
- Physical Toughness & Resilience
- Physiological Response to Combat
- Dealing With Casualties
- Training Effectively for Combat

Book 2: The Voices of War Series
This will be a series of books containing interviews of credible combat leaders. The interviews will follow an outline that will ask questions about topics and issues most germane to the development of combat leaders at the grades mentioned regarding Book 1 on Combat Leadership.

Interviews
The individual interviews I will conduct will be used while I am writing both books. Selected quotes and anecdotes from some of them will be inserted into Book 1: Combat Leadership, while the entire interviews of credible combat leaders (transcribed and edited for print format) will be used to populate the books in the The Voices of War Series.  My goal is to produce the type of books that all of us would have enjoyed reading as young warriors, who not yet faced the test of combat.

Contact Me
I am respectfully requesting that you consider doing an interview with me via Zoom, so I can record your thoughts on this topic and use them appropriately in both books.

Please contact me at: [email protected]

I will respond with additional details regarding the conduct of your interview.

My Intent
I've already authored other books on leadership, but these will be the most important books I ever write.  If 40 years from now, a young, exhausted Corporal leading a squad through the Fog of War remembers a lesson contained in one of these books, my bleached bones will rattle with satisfaction.

Thank you for considering my request for an interview!

Semper Fidelis,
Mike Ettore
